Punctuality: School starts at 8.55am, which means that children should be in the playground ready to line up at this time. It is disruptive to your child’s learning as well as to the learning of the rest of the class if they arrive late. Please also make sure that your child is collected from school on time. School finishes at 3.10pm.
Office: Please make sure we have your up to date contact details. If you haven’t already done so, why not access our school texting service? Also, let the office know of any medical form updates.
Clubs: Sign up forms for after school clubs will be sent home soon. Children should be picked up at 4.30 after clubs have finished. If an emergency means that you can’t make 4.30pm you should ring the school and let us know. Breakfast club runs every morning from 8am.
Uniform: Please ensure that your child wears the correct school uniform every day. Children have coat pegs and drawers to keep belongings in, however, it is a good idea to make sure that their name is sewn or written on clothing, in particular, their jumpers.
Jewellery: Children are not allowed to wear rings, bracelets or necklaces. Only ‘sleeper studs’ are permitted for earrings.
Meetings: If you would like to arrange a meeting for any reason please arrange a time with Mrs Joyner in the office. However, f it is something quick, please wait until the other children have been collected at the end of the day.
PE: Our class will be doing PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays. PE is an important part of the curriculum, so please make sure that your child has their PE kit in school ready for them to participate.
Homework: Children will bring home homework once a week on a Monday or Tuesday to be returned by Friday. Children will receive a sticker for bringing their books back on time. Feel free to help with your child’s learning at home.
God Made Me: Sometimes an extra booklet will be sent home as part of their homework. Please ensure it stays inside their homework books.
Spellings: From this Friday, each week, children will bring home a list of spellings to practise. They will be tested on these the following Friday.
Reading books: Children will bring home with them a reading book of an appropriate level, and a reading record. It is extremely beneficial to your child’s learning if you can listen to them read for at least 10 minutes most days. Please note what you have read together in their reading record. Children will have the opportunity to change their book daily however, they need to take responsibility for doing this. Reading records need to come into school every day.
Word books:
Some children will bring home a blue word book with additional key words that they need to practise to read and write. These also need to come into school every day.
Maths Booklets: I am sending home a Maths booklet with activities for you to do with your child to help support their learning.
Class rules: We decided on our class rules together, they can be seen on the attached sheet. Please find time to talk to your child about them.
Topics: This half term we will be learning about:
Literacy: Instructions, stories by the same author
Maths: See Maths booklet.
Science: Plants and animals in the local environment.
RE: Beginnings, friends.
History: Florence Nightingale.
Art: Lines, shapes, colours and textures found in nature.
PE: Dance.
ICT: Communicating information using text.
Music: Exploring the duration of sounds.
RE Books: Children will be decorating their RE books in the next couple of days. If they have any pictures, photos or stickers that they would like put on their books these need to be in by this Friday.
Can you help?: If you are interested in helping out in the classroom in any way please let me know.
Finally, our celebration assembly will still be running
every Friday at 2.50. Please come and share in our childrens’ successes.
